010 – Repertoire October 2017 Drum And Bass Selections

This month has seen some amazing digital/vinyl drum and bass releases. We asked Ben from Repertoire Records to pick some of his favourites. Bandcamp embeds are provided where possible.

1. Cycle-One – Cast Away (Repertoire)

An artist which we have been working with since last year releases his debut twelve with us. Both sides are lovely but Cast Away is my favourite. Excellent sampling with a nod to Paradox/Alaska. Watch out for more from Cycle-One on Repertoire in 2018.

2. Sully – Vanta (Keysound Recordings)

We have been a big fan of Sully for a long time at Repertoire. The drum edits are exceptional. This tune carries on where his EP on Astrophonica left off.

3. Gremlinz – Untitled Bleeps (Skeleton Recordings)

It was hard to pick a favourite from the 5 releases that make up the 20 years of Skeleton project but this track edges it for me. Tough breaks on this one. Another tune on the series worth checking is “Relapse” by Ricky Force. I know how much has gone into the project as a whole so respect to Brian on this and the artists involved.

4. Kid Lib – Blue Dreamers (Foxy Jangle)

Kid Lib kicks of the sub label from Rua Sound in his classic style. Proper throwback Jungle, what a start to a label! I am looking forward to future releases.

5. Bungle – Cocooned (31 Records)

Absolutely love this. Rolls out nicely with so much funk on the drums. 31 Records have been on a great form this year. Another tune worth checking is Current Value “Reconsider”.

6. Adred – Lazy Jungle (Metalheadz)

Real nice release from Adred. I love the Robert Manos vocals.

7. Andy Skopes – Seance (Metalheadz)

Again Metalheadz have been on fire this year. Every promo we get from them has been on point. I have been a massive fan of Andy Skopes for a long time and this track has echoes of a personal favourite of mine “True Chord Redux VIP”. Wicked filters on the breaks.

8. Ilk – Fours (Repertoire)

Nods to his forthcoming track “The Heather” on Warm Communications. Nice build up and drop on this.

9. Seba – External Reality [Om Unit Remix] (Secret Operation)

Loved the original from Seba but Om Unit nails this remix in my opinion. Captures all the good bits of the original and adds his signature stamp to it.

10. Soul Intent – No Answers [Concealed Identity Remix] (Exkursions)

Soul Intent and Concealed Identity together whats not to love? The Exkursions off shoot label from Soul Intent has been of particular interest for me with some great experimental sounds including some nice 140bpm tracks from Alex’s Odyssia alias.
